Wearable Touch Sensors …. and more!

Sparky the crocheted cat has a new sweater vest, which will have an Adafruit Circuit Playground Express on its "chest" (think Iron Man). The CPE has build in LEDs, sound, etc. which will be activated by touching various conductive areas/appendages. Conductive fiber spun and plyed with orange wool yarn will be used to make touch pads and a hat/appendage. Small handwoven fabric pieces also have touch sensors woven in, with either conductive thread or handspun conductive yarn for the sensor area. The exhibit will feature people spinning yarn, demonstrating weaving on different types of looms, and a free take-away (or do it now) weaving activity.

Drunken Monkey Spinners and Weavers of Orlando

We mostly spin yarn from fiber, but we also knit and weave. We include new tools (EL wire, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, particle photon, RFID tags, sensors, LEDs, etc.) with traditional techniques to make e-textiles.
