Orlando Math Circle / Florida Math Circles Network — Maker Faire Orlando
We’re the Orlando Math Circle and the Florida Math Circles Network — a statewide network of students, educators, and STEM professionals facilitating and growing math enrichment and outreach throughout the state of Florida for all ages. We help people everywhere do mathematics with their mind, heart, and hands — to experience the full joy of it. We focus on logic activities that promote creative problem solving and critical thinking, and we encourage people to play with mathematics and make mathematics their own — through math art, puzzle hunts, math stories, math collaborations, and other creative ways to enjoy the beauty of mathematics. Beyond Central Florida, we train facilitators across the state so math outreach can take root in their own communities, not just ours.
Bring your hands to our table. Visitors of every age can tangle with puzzles and strategy games, fold flat paper into surprising geometry, build tessellations and symmetry patterns, and take on brain-teasers that reward clever thinking over fast arithmetic. Our centerpiece this year is a hands-on Menger Sponge build — a fractal cube made of hundreds of smaller cubes, some folded from business cards and others snapped together from our interlocking cube pieces. Visitors add pieces as they pass by, watching the fractal grow more complex over the course of the fair. There’s no wrong entry point — a curious six-year-old and a skeptical grown-up can sit at the same table, adding to the fractal and helping it grow.
