Come meet the makers of the Barony of Darkwater! We'll be bringing the hands-on side of medieval and Renaissance history to Maker Faire with historical clothing, textiles, crafts, music, dance, armor, and more.
See things we've made, watch demonstrations, ask questions, and try your hand at some simple historical techniques. You might even get pulled into a dance!
We're all about experimenting, learning, and figuring out how people made amazing things before modern technology-and having a lot of fun doing it.

Makers of the Middle Ages
The Barony of Darkwater is part of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a worldwide organization where people research and recreate the arts, crafts, technology, music, clothing, and culture of the pre-modern world.
We would love to bring that experience to Maker Faire Orlando!
Our members are makers in every sense of the word. We sew historical clothing, weave and embroider, make leather goods, work with wood and metal, create musical instruments and costumes, research historical recipes, and recreate historical tools and techniques. We also sing, play music, and perform historical dances.
Our exhibit would be a fun, colorful, hands-on look at what it means to **make history come alive**.
Visitors could:
* See and handle examples of historical crafts and clothing * Watch demonstrations of textile and other traditional crafts * Meet people who make their own historical clothing, armor, and equipment * Learn a simple historical dance * See and hear historical music and songs * Learn about the research and experimentation that goes into recreating historical objects and techniques * See demonstrations of safe reproduction armor and weapons
We especially want to show that historical recreation isn't just putting on a costume. We actually have to figure out how people made things, how they worked, and how to recreate those techniques today.
And, of course, we'd bring some of the fun and spectacle that makes the SCA so much fun: beautiful costumes, dancing, music, swords, and a whole lot of enthusiastic people who love making things!
We're happy to adapt the exhibit to the space available and would love to provide rotating demonstrations and activities throughout the weekend.
History was made by makers. We'd love to show Maker Faire Orlando how.
